Gas fireplace repair in Raleigh

The Triangle's housing stock is unusually new. Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Morrisville, Holly Springs and Wake Forest expanded enormously from the 1990s onward, and that growth means a very high proportion of fireplaces here are builder-installed sealed direct-vent units with electronic ignition. Compared with Charlotte, which retains substantial pre-war neighbourhoods, the Triangle has proportionally far fewer converted masonry fireboxes and far more identical factory units installed subdivision by subdivision.

That changes what goes wrong. Electronic-ignition appliances have no standing pilot to corrode, but they depend on a control module, an igniter, a flame-sense rod and usually a battery backup that fails silently. Combined with the Triangle's mild winters, where a fireplace might run twenty evenings a year, the typical Raleigh call is a nearly new unit that clicks and will not light after a long humid idle summer — a flat battery or a dirty flame-sense rod far more often than a genuine component failure. Over 400 gas fireplace projects completed across the Raleigh / Triangle area.

GOOD TO KNOW

Frequently asked questions

My fireplace clicks but never lights. What is that?

On an electronic-ignition unit, the igniter is firing but the module is not confirming flame. In the Triangle the usual causes are a flat backup battery, a dirty flame-sense rod, or a pilot orifice blocked by spider webbing over the summer. The control module itself is rarely the problem.

Where is the battery on a gas fireplace?

Most electronic-ignition units have a battery backup behind the lower louvre or in the control compartment, and it lets the fireplace light during a power cut. It fails silently, and a flat one is a very common cause of a fireplace that suddenly will not start.

Why do spiders matter in a gas fireplace?

The odorant added to natural gas attracts them, and they nest in pilot orifices and tubes during the long idle season. A blocked orifice stops the pilot lighting. It is common across the Southeast and simple to clear.

Which parts of the Triangle do you cover?

Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Morrisville, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, Wake Forest, Garner, Knightdale, Durham and Chapel Hill.

What is the most common gas fireplace problem?

Across every market we serve, pilot problems are the single most common thing we are called about — a pilot that will not light, or one that lights and drops straight out as soon as you release the knob. The symptom is remarkably consistent everywhere; what differs from place to place is why it happens, which is why diagnosis takes account of your climate and your housing as well as what the fireplace is doing.

Will you fix it on the first visit?

Often, yes. Our vans carry thermocouples, thermopiles, igniters, gas valves, blowers and remote receivers along with full tooling, so roughly half of all jobs are finished on the first visit. Where a part has to be ordered in, every job is completed within the week.

What will a repair cost?

Every fireplace is different, so we give you a flat, upfront quote after the inspection — no hidden fees, and nothing starts until you approve it. Many repairs are finished the same day.

Is the pre-season inspection really free?

Yes — a full inspection at no charge and no obligation to book a repair. October and November are our busiest months in every market, so booking ahead of the rush is worth doing.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes — Chimney Knight is fully licensed and insured, and our repairs are backed by a workmanship warranty.
